Tribute to Late Professor Adamu D. Baikie

Visionary Founder and First President of the Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians (CNNC)

The Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians (CNNC) pays glowing tribute to the life, leadership, and enduring legacy of its visionary Founder and First President, Late Professor Adamu D. Baikie—a statesman, patriot, and committed servant of God whose life was dedicated to the unity, advancement, and protection of Christians in Northern Nigeria.

Professor Baikie began the journey of the Congress as its Interim Chairman, providing the leadership and direction that transformed a noble vision into a formidable movement. At the maiden National Convention of the Congress in December 2019, he was overwhelmingly elected as its first substantive President, a position he occupied with exceptional wisdom, humility, courage, and unwavering commitment until the Lord called him home.

Under his leadership, the Congress witnessed remarkable growth and institutional development. He convened and presided over numerous local, state, national, and regional meetings, tirelessly mobilizing Christian leaders and stakeholders towards a common purpose. He organized the inauguration of the Congress that took place on the 11th November, 2017, laying a firm foundation for a united Christian voice in the region.

One of his most enduring contributions was the drafting of the Constitution of the Congress and the successful registration of the organization with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), thereby giving the Congress a solid legal and administrative framework. He further established the Board of Trustees, the College of Patrons, and Standing Committees, while coordinating democratic leadership elections throughout the Northern states and the FCT.

Professor Baikie was not merely an administrator; he was a visionary. His dream was to establish permanent and world-class National and State Headquarters for the Congress. He envisioned a National Headquarters that would accommodate modern administrative offices, schools, a university, a refuge and rehabilitation centre for victims of persecution, research and policy units, and an international media and press centre. This vision sprang from his profound burden to provide lasting, practical, and institutional solutions to the recurring challenges confronting Christians in Northern Nigeria.

Although death prevented him from witnessing the full realization of this extraordinary vision, it could not extinguish the ideals for which he lived. His faith, integrity, sacrificial service, and unwavering commitment remain a beacon of hope and an enduring challenge to all who continue the work he began.

Professor Adamu D. Baikie leaves behind a legacy that cannot be measured merely by offices established or meetings convened, but by the lives he inspired, the unity he fostered, and the vision he bequeathed to future generations. His memory will forever occupy a place of honour in the history of the Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians.

As we celebrate his life and mourn his passing, we also renew our commitment to the ideals he cherished. We pray that Almighty God will raise worthy men and women with the courage, wisdom, conviction, and selfless devotion to carry forward the vision he so faithfully pioneered until it is fully accomplished.

Though Professor Adamu D. Baikie has departed from our midst, his vision lives on. His works continue to speak, and his legacy will remain an enduring inspiration to generations yet unborn.

May Almighty God grant his soul eternal rest and comfort his beloved family, the Congress of Northern Nigeria Christians, and all whose lives were touched by his exemplary leadership. Amen.
